Campaign period: September 23rd to 28th
Election speeches: September 28th (Saturday) at 8 pm in the Vault
Elections (by electronic ballots) on Sept 29th and 30th
Intent of the Position: Zone Representatives (Zone Reps) are ten elected officials of the HUB Community Association (HCA) who have voting authority at HCA Executive Meetings. The scheduling of bi-weekly Executive Meetings will take into consideration the availability of zone reps and strongly encourage their participation as voting members. The Zone Rep position provides a learning opportunity to see HCA governance and leadership processes in action, with the hope that many of those filling the position in the current year will run for election in subsequent years. As potential future HCA executives and Resident Assistants (RAs), zone reps and are also welcome to sit on other Association meetings such as the joint RA-Executive meetings (will occur monthly).
Roles and responsibilities: As elected representatives of HUB Residents, Zone Reps are expected to represent their Zone in major executive voting decisions such as the budget and changes to the constitution. As the majority voting members at executive meetings, they are also responsible for approving executive honorarium disbursements, including those from the Spring/Summer term. In order to maintain satisfactory standing, at a bare minimum, Zone Reps must maintain an acceptable attendance record by accruing no more than 2 unexcused absences from biweekly executive meetings. To maximize benefit from the position, Zone Reps are also encouraged to attend HCA events, with a focus on learning the operations behind them, and to join for at least one joint RA-Executive meeting to get a sense of the various types of leadership roles available within our community.
Elections and Term: Zone Reps may run in any HUB Zone although they are highly encouraged to run in the Zone in which they hold residence. All Zone Reps must also be residents of HUB Mall. Election Nominations, which include a platform statement, must be received by September 30th at Midnight MST. Following review by the Chief Returning Officer, within 7 days, an election campaign period lasting two weeks will be announced, followed by two days of elections distributed by electronic ballot. Positions begin immediately after tallying of the ballot results. The Zone Representatives shall be accountable to the HCA Executive and may be removed by a two thirds (2/3) majority vote of the executive. Positions in satisfactory standing automatically renew for the Winter semester (Jan-April). There are no Zone Reps during the summer term.
